Rom Coms are clichéd, soppy, predictable and very popular .Rom coms always have a meet cute, and the part of the film where the two main protagonists meet is called the “meet cute”. The meet cute is central to a rom com as the story of romance can’t move forward swiftly enough without it, especially in a movies average running time. Rom Coms should also always have a happy ending, this is not true of all romance in all genres, like say the tragic romance. However Rom coms do share themes with other genres one being the love triangle. Love Triangles makes for more peaks and troughs in the films narrative structure, they add to the drama and play to the interests of the target demographic however some appeal to a wider demographic and even cross the gender divide (see example underneath.). The overall message of the vast majority of romantic comedies is that, love conquers all.
